A Guide To Photoelectric Smoke Detectors in Somerville

Photoelectric smoke detectors operate with a small source of light from inside. The alarm goes off when there is no amount of light detected outside. These smoke detectors are so sensitive that they can feel smoke coming out of a burning object like a mattress. If a fire is smouldering the detector will go off. It does not require flames and smoke to go off.

These units can, however, go off from ordinary things like shower steam and burnt toast. Because of this, they shouldn’t be used in a toilet or kitchen area. They also shouldn’t be set up in a living room or dining area where chimney smoke or incense might trigger the alarm.

Find areas where the sensors can be set up without going off accidentally. Do not put them by windows or doorways. Keep them away from air conditioners and ceiling fans so any possible smoke isn’t directed away from them. [Suburb] photoelectric smoke detectors are best for bedrooms, passageways or corners of the home.
